  • Reserving a Table
    • Salutation: Hello / Good Morning-Afternoon-Evening
    • ...The Good Boy restaurant. May I help you? 
    • Yes, I'd like to reserve a table for dinner.
    • What time would you like your table? 
    • About 5 o'clock.
    • Ok. How many people? 
    • Four people.
    • Then I'll reserve the table for four at 5 o'clock. May I have your name, please? 
    • Yes, my name is... 
    • Thanks! Good bye!


  • Taking a seat
    • Good Evening. Welcome to our restaurant. Have you made a reservation?
    • Yes, I have booked a table for four. My name is...
    • We have chosen a window table for you. This way, please. Will this table be all right?
    • Certainly. It's quite good. Thank you.
    • You are welcome. 


  • Ordering Food
    • Here's your menu.
    • Could you tell us about the specials of the day?
    • We have...
      • Coconut Shrimp, served with rice and a side salad.
    • We also have...
      • Prime Rib, only $8 per person, including salad and choice of potato or rice.
    • I think I'll just have a Prime Rib with rice.
    • Would you like appetizers or a salad to go with that?
    • Ok, I'll take salad. 
    • Ok. Or would you like an appetizer to start with?
    • No, thank you.
    • Yes, I'd like to try the egg salad.

  • Hurrying the waiter to serve up 
    • Excuse me!
    • Yes?
    • Our food seems to be taking a long time. We ordered half an hour ago. 
    • I'm sorry. I'll see what's happened...
                (5 minutes later)
    • Here's the egg salad. Is it yours?
    • Yes, it's ours. And we have ordered a Prime rib with rice.
    • It's coming.
    • Could you tell the cooks to hurry up? We don't have plenty of time.
    • Certainly.
    • Thank you very much. 


  • Useful chunks
  • "May I...?" = ¿Podría...? (Yo)
  • "Could you...?" ¿Podrías...? (Tú) ¿Podrían...? (Ustedes) 
  • "I would like to..." = "I'd like to..." = Me gustaría.
  • "How many?"/ "How much?" = ¿Cuánto?
    • Many= contable
    • Much= no contable
  • "Have you made...? = Has/han hecho...? (PRESENT PERFECT)
  • "I  have booked/chosen/ordered..."= He reservado/elegido/ordenado. (PRESENT PERFECT)
  • We/I have...(this menu)= Tengo/tenemos. Have no es un verbo auxiliar, por lo tanto significa "poseer" algo.
  • We/I don't have...(plenty of time)= No tengo/tenemos. El don't es el indicador de que la oración es negativa, es decir, que NO se posee algo.
  • I/We will...(see, reserve, take) or I'll/We'll... (see, reserve, take) = alude al futuro. "Veremos/Reservaremos/Tomaré..."


  • Useful expressions and vocabulary
  • Dinner= Cena
  • Number "o'clock'= la hora en punto.
  • This way, please = Por aquí, por favor.
  • Certainly= Por cierto, por supuesto.
  • Served with= Servido con...
  • Including = Incluyendo...
  • Choice of= Con la alternativa de...
  • Just = Solamente.
  • Seems to be= Al parecer...
  • Half an hour= Media hora.
  • Yours / Ours = Tuyo / Nuestro
  • Plenty of time= Montón de tiempo.
