Lesson 2 At The Hotel

For this first class we have the following goals:

  • Requesting a pick up
    • Salutation: Hello / Good Morning-Afternoon-Evening
    • What's yout name? My name is...
    • I would like to... request a pickup from the airport.
    • Certainly. Please exit the terminal and go to the pickup spot. I will radio a driver for you.
    • How long will it take?
    • About ten minutes.
    • How long is the ride to the hotel?
    • Traffic is backed up today, so it will take about thirty minutes. Sorry about that.
    • No problem, thank you. 

  • Checking in with reservation
    • I'd like to check in.
    • Yes. May I have your name?
    • Yes...
    • Do you have a reservation with us?
    • Yes, I do. 
    • Mrs/Mr ... your reservation is for a double room for (number) nights. Right?
    • That's right.
    • Could you please fill out the registration card, please?
    • All right!
    • How would you like to settle your bill?
    • By credit card.
    • Ok. Your room number is 25 on the third floor. Have an enjoyable stay.

  • At the Laundry
    • Hello! I'd like to have this laundry done.
    • Could you fill out the laundry form?
    • Ok. I want to have this sweater washed by hand in cold water. It might shrink otherwise.
    • By hand in cold water. I understand
    • And I'd like this garment dry-cleaned, please.
    • Ok. Anything else?
    • Do you have a mending service for clothes? I'd like this dress mended.
    • Yes, we can mend it.
    • When will they be ready?
    • We will deliver them tomorrow everning around 6.

  • Useful chunks
    • "How would you like...?" = ¿Cómo le gustaría...?
    • "I would like to..." = "I'd like to..." = Me gustaría.
    • "I would like this... cleaned/mended." = Me gustaría que [objeto] esté limpio/arreglado.
      • "I want to have" = Me gustaría tener...
    • "Do you have...?" = ¿Tienes/tienes...?
    • Yes, I do.
    • No, I don't.
    • "Could you please...? = ¿Podría...?
    • "How long..."= se utiliza generalmente cuando se habla de extensión de tiempo.
    • (When) will they...?= alude al futuro. "¿Cuándo estará listo? "
    • I will... = alude al futuro. "Yo llamaré por radio."

  • Useful expressions and vocabulary
    • Certainly: Por cierto, por supuesto.
    • Sorry about that: Lo lamento.
    • No problem: no hay problema.
    • That's right: Exacto, correcto.
    • All right = Ok
    • I understand = Entiendo.
